Leonarda di Grigori (this surname also appears as “di Grigoli” and “di Gregorio”) is a Corleone native resident, the daughter of Antonino di Gregorio and Francesca la Miata, who married in 1766.
Leonarda marries Salvatore Catalinotto (“Catalanotto”), son of Giuseppe Catalinotto and Anna Maria Castagnano, on 3 October 1791.[1]
Leonarda and Salvatore have at least Salvatore and Leonarda have at least three children: Giuseppe (1799), Lorenzo (c. 1811), and Salvatore (c. 1828).
Giuseppe Maria is born 24 August 1799 in Corleone and baptized the next day. His godparents are Michaelangelo and Bernarda Lala, brother and sister, both unmarried.[2]
I estimate Lorenzo is born no more than twenty years after his parents marry.
Giuseppe marries Carmela Vernagallo, a widow, on 1 June 1823.[3]
Salvatore dies in infancy on 25 July 1828 in Corleone. He is buried at the Chiesa di San Domenico.[4]
Giuseppe, known by the nickname "Moscoglione," takes part in a Republican insurrection in Corleone, at the height of the cholera epidemic of 1837. He is named as one of the rowdier members of a murderous mob, who beat and kill three men on a bridge. For his part, Giuseppe is executed along with several others on 2 August 1837. He is 36 years old.[5]
Lorenzo marries at least twice, first to Carmela Briganti. He remarries to Caterina Canzoneri, a widow, on 7 June 1838 in Corleone.[6]
